This resource guide, created for students in middle through high school, offers easy-to-follow lesson plans that examine the social, political, cultural, and historical dimensions of Conscious Hip Hop/Rap music.
 
Conscious Rap can be described as a type of rap music that addresses the political, social, and economic issues facing African American youth. Conscious rap expresses a positive Black vision of culture.
 
Students will be engaged in critical analysis of conscientious lyrics of various rap artists and will develop the ability to connect to current issues and events of today. The lessons will also focus on how to use these lyrics for social science while developing reading skills for students.
